Biography Section

Biography and Education

Ny'Nika McFadden earned her PhD in Health Education and Promotion and MA in Communication Studies from The University of Alabama. She received her BS in Psychology from Troy University.

She is currently an Assistant Professor of Public Health in the Department of Health and Human Performance at Texas State University. Her research interest focuses on improving chronic disease self-management among individuals living with Type 1 Diabetes and Type 2 Diabetes. Also, her research focuses on chronic disease prevention among individuals living with Prediabetes and Gestational Diabetes to reduce future development of Type 2 Diabetes.

Her other research interests include patient-provider communication and patient education. Dr. McFadden would like to improve patient-provider collaborations on treatment plans by empowering patients to become more engaged in the decision-making process. Additionally, she is interested in providing patient education through creating manuals, mobile applications, and interactive websites to assist with preventative care for populations at-risk of developing Type 2 Diabetes and Gestational Diabetes and to improve self-management among populations diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes, Type 2 Diabetes, and Gestational Diabetes.
