Biography and Education

Dr. Salah A. Faroughi joined Texas State University in 2021 as Assistant Professor bringing several years of industry experience mainly focusing on "energy and environment" dual challenge. Dr. Faroughi's main areas of expertise are (i) understanding the particle-level physics in advanced particulate matter, and (ii) the combination of traditional multiscale modeling and science-informed deep learning methodologies to speed up forward modelling in complex matters and geo-energy systems. He obtained a M.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering from Sharif University of Technology and a M.Sc. in Geophysics from Georgia Tech. Dr. Faroughi also did his Ph.D. at Georgia Tech where he investigated the effect of microstructures (e.g., particle shape, size, type, orientation, and rearrangement) on the rheology and thermal behaviors of particle-laden matter (e.g., complex fluids, rocks and composites). Dr. Faroughi did his postdoctoral study at MIT focusing on the development of high-performance computing algorithms augmented by physics-based machine learning models to explore the dynamics of particle-laden viscoelastic fluids. Dr. Faroughi is also an active entrepreneur in clean energy, AI and software development areas. He founded & licensed TubeIn Fluids and now working on AsseScope — a SaaS platform for fiber-integrated smart assets.
