Biography Section

Biography and Education

Sarah Hirneisen is an Austin based artist using three-dimensional materials and processes to elevate familiar and everyday objects. Born and raised in rural Pennsylvania, Sarah lived in New York, Rhode Island, and California before settling in the state of Texas. She received an AAS with a major in Glass from Rochester Institute of Technology in 1998 and a BFA from Rhode Island School of Design in 2001 and her MFA in studio art in 2011 from Mills College with a concentration in Sculpture. Sarah was awarded a residency through the Hungarian Multicultural Center, has received an Individual Artist Grant through the City of Oakland’s Cultural Art’s Program and a Phelan, Murphy & Cadogan fellowship from the San Francisco Foundation for graduate students in the arts. She has taught Sculpture at Mills College, Cabrillo College, City College of San Francisco and is currently teaching sculpture at Texas State University. Sarah has exhibited her work extensively throughout the US as well as Hungary, Korea and England and is in active member of ICOSA Art Collective.
