Biography and Education

Laura Jett Krantz is a senior lecturer, as well as director and faculty adviser of the student media organization, The University Star. She has been advising student media for more than 14 years.

Krantz previously worked as a reporter and editor for community newspapers in Oklahoma and Texas, winning multiple awards from the Oklahoma Press Association, North and East Texas Press Association, and Texas Associated Press Managing Editors.

In 2005, she was hired as Communications Director for the City of Tyler, Texas, while also teaching journalism as an adjunct at The University of Texas at Tyler. In 2007, she left her position with the City of Tyler to take on the role of department chair of Journalism and Student Publications at Tyler Junior College. She also ran her own PR consulting firm Krantz PR from 2007-2017.

Krantz holds a master’s degree in communication from Stephen F. Austin State University and a bachelor’s degree in journalism and mass communication from The University of New Mexico.

She is a past president of the Texas Intercollegiate Press Association and received TIPA’s Charles T. Choate Memorial Adviser of the Year Award in 2011. She was also named Honor Roll 2-Year Newspaper Adviser in 2010 and Distinguished 2-Year Newspaper Adviser in 2019 by the national College Media Association.
