Biography Section

Biography and Education

Charles Kaufman was born and raised in Dallas, Texas. He received degrees from Northwestern University and The University of Texas at Austin. After a 16-year career with daily newspapers and as a columnist for various topical magazines, Mr. Kaufman began a successful career in corporate and marketing publications and media relations. He has taught reporting and public relations courses at Texas State University since 2005. He has written two textbooks, "Engaging Public Relations, A Creative Planning Approach" and "IdeaPower," both published by Kendall Hunt Publishers. He serves as the faculty adviser for Bobcat Promotions, a student-led media strategies firm. He created an innovative annual career development trip to the media capital of the world — New York — a program that has evolved into a Study in America course. He assisted in supervising the School's MassComm Week programing in 2021. He’s supervised the School’s national PRSSA Bateman case study competition team since 2006, eight of which have won national honors. He continues to serve SJMC as the Scholarship, Internship and Career Development Coordinator and helped manage and maintain that area's high standards even in the face of Covid-19. As president of B’nai B’rith International, he has written regular columns not only for the organization's website, but columns for the Jerusalem Post, Newsweek, Inside Sources, the Algemeiner and other publications and engaged in numerous creative efforts. He is married to Jennifer Rudolph Kaufman. They have two children and three grandchildren.
