Biography Section

Biography and Education

Dr. Liu is Associate Dean for Research and Sponsored Program in the College of Education, and a Professor in the Department of Health and Human Performance. She earned her Ph.D. in Kinesiology from University of Texas at Austin, M.S. in Exercise and Sports Studies from Boise State University, and B.S. in Physical Education from Beijing Sport University. Dr. Liu’s research agenda includes applied and translational research in children with autism. She has established and directed Autism camp since 2010, provided a place for children with autism in San Marcos and hands-on service learning and research opportunities to Texas State students. Dr. Liu served as the Exercise and Sports Science undergraduate program coordinator in 2015-2017 and as the graduate program coordinator since 2017. She also served as a Faculty Senator from 2016 to 2019 representing the faculty of the College of Education. In addition, she has co-chaired the International Advisory Council since 2020, and served on the University Curriculum Committee and co-chaired the College of Education Curriculum Committee in 2018. Dr. Liu has received numerous research, teaching, and service awards. Dr. Liu was the recipient of the 2021 Regents' Teacher Award, 2021 Everette Swinney Faculty Senate Excellence in Teaching Award, the 2019 Translational Health Research Poster Award, multiple Presidential Distinction Awards for Excellence in Teaching, the 2014 Presidential Award for Excellence in Scholarly/Creative Activities, multiple College Achievement Awards for Excellence in Service, and the national Lolas E. Halverson Motor Development and Learning Young Investigator Award.

Research Interests

Dr. Liu research interests broadly focus on the investigation of motor behavior changes in typical and atypical children with different motor, social, emotion, and motor competence. She has expanded her sustained scholarly line of research to conduct applied and translational research of great significance to children with autism spectrum disorder, their families, and professionals that work with this population.
