Biography and Education

Catherine Hawkins, Ph.D., LCSW, is the Director of Faculty Development and a Professor of Social Work at Texas State University. She earned her MSW and PhD in Social Work from the University of Texas at Austin. She joined the Texas State faculty in 1991 and has taught across the curriculum in both the BSW and MSW programs focusing on advanced level clinical practice. Prior to entering academia, she practiced as a psychotherapist in a variety of treatment settings serving a wide range of client populations, with a specialty in chemical dependency and family therapy. Her current teaching and scholarly interests are in mental health, spirituality, environmental sustainability, and global social work as well as adult professional education. She is a long-standing member of the National Association of Social Workers. She currently serves on the Council of Social Work Education (CSWE) Council on Global Learning and Practice and previously served as the CSWE Spirituality Track Chair.
